Western Stubby Saddle Pad
The Western Stubby is built for riders who don’t carry an ounce more pad than the saddle actually needs. It’s the compact, high-performance version of our Shaped Western Trail Pad — engineered specifically for today’s ultra-light trail saddles, short skirts, and minimalist rigs. Smaller footprint. Maximum function. Zero compromise.
Whether you’re cruising easy miles or pushing through steep, unforgiving country, the Western Stubby protects your horse’s back against heat, friction, and long-ride fatigue. The design keeps the spine channel clear with independent panel construction and gives your saddle a secure, ergonomic foundation without adding unnecessary length.
Inside the pad, you can choose from our performance insert system:
– 1/4 inch D-Fend for lightweight shock absorption
– 1/2 inch XRD for maximum impact protection
ETC® Technical Anti-Friction Lining
Under the saddle is where the real work happens. ETC® — a technical, low-friction textile engineered to reduce shear forces created by movement. Every stride creates micro-motion between saddle, pad, and back. That’s where pressure, heat, and soreness start. ETC® is the top layer in shutting it down.
Heat buildup is the enemy of comfort and circulation, especially on long rides. ETC® acts like a built-in thermal regulator under your saddle, keeping the interface cooler and reducing heat spikes caused by repetitive motion. It also manages moisture, preventing that cold-damp evaporative chill once the ride slows down.
Because ETC® eliminates the warm, wet environment bacteria need to thrive, the pad stays cleaner, drier, and fresher. In independent SATRA testing, ETC® went from fully saturated to dry-to-the-touch in just 45 minutes — dramatically faster than traditional materials. Faster dry time. Less odor. Less irritation. More miles.
